Designer picks: My favorite farmhouse home decor

My favorite farmhouse home decor

I love helping my clients transform their homes into rooms they absolutely love, and places they want to spend time in. Because I view each client's project as if I were designing for my own home (meaning, if I can't justify spending money on a particular piece, I surely won't recommend it to them), I often find myself completely in love with the designs I've put together, and wishing I had a place in my own home for those pieces! I decided to share a few of my all-time favorites of real furniture and decor pieces I have incorporated into my clients' designs...that I might just need to snag for myself!

This white-washed, lived-in nightstand from Wayfair gives any bedroom the ultimate farmhouse treatment with the cross bar details. And it's the perfect storage solution: a drawer provides closed storage to keep the nightstand free of clutter, but the open shelf below gives space to display a few beautiful hardcover books, potted greenery, or other decor accents. Add a table lamp like this artisan glass lamp, a candle, and a succulent or small vase of fresh flowers for instant nightstand style:

One of my favorite accessories to have in a living room, family room, or even dining room is a small ottoman or pouf for extra seating. Ours has come in handy on so many occasions when we've had family over, and not enough chairs or room on the couch. You can also style it with a small tray like this whitewash wood tray and use it as another side table, or leave it on its own as another side table or accessory. I'm loving this pouf from Kohl's in seafoam green! It's a pretty neutral shade that would go with so many color palettes, but still packs a punch on it's own. And the embroidery detail adds a little extra character:

This hand-carved round wood tray from Pier One with the exquisite vine detail would go perfectly with the pouf, or could be placed on a coffee table with pillar candles and a vase of fresh (or faux) flowers, or on a console or buffet table to display a mini bar with wine or liquor bottles, and your favorite glassware. You could also place it on a kitchen counter to beautify your morning coffee bar:

For a more glamorous and classic spin on farmhouse style, this 4-light lantern pendant from Birch Lane in polished chrome would instantly brighten a foyer, or even a high-ceiling kitchen. How could you not smile every time you turned on this stunning fixture? Plus, it comes with a dimmer so you can customize your lighting ambiance for the occasion (or your mood!):

Jute rugs are perfect for practically any interior style: they add a classic, coastal vibe to any decor setting. This bleached ivory basket weave jute rug from World Market comes in a wide variety of sizes, whether you are looking for full coverage for a living room or bedroom, a hallway runner, or a kitchen floor mat:

Need a little extra lighting on a side table, nightstand, or home office desk? This artisan glass lamp base pairs beautifully with the ivory linen woven lamp shade, both from Target, to create a custom neutral lamp with plenty of texture:

These natural upholstered, antique nailhead trim chairs from Home Depot would look so regal at either end of a dining table. A true blend of fashion and function, these chairs look beautiful but are also comfortable to sit and linger over long meals. Look closely at the fabric, and you will see it also has a herringbone-like quality to it:

Looking to add more style to your entryway, kitchen or breakfast nook, or even a master closet? This bronze and clear glass star flushmount light fixture from Joss & Main is petite in size but adds so much style and drama!

So if you're looking to infuse your home with farmhouse style (or just freshen up here or there), these are some of my favorite must-have pieces. Now I'm totally in the mood to go shopping...anyone else?
