There is one rule we sometimes break, and we do it intentionally.

When a client has an heirloom piece that matters to them, we try and find a way to incorporate it into their space’s design. A piece that carries meaning does not necessarily need to be dismissed, so we may be able to design around what our clients value, or help them find a new designated place for the piece in their home.

Designing a laundry room your family actually wants to spend time in requires a higher standard than most homeowners think to set—and it was exactly the one that guided this renovation.

This room works for the family in two ways: as a laundry room built for the demands of a weekly routine, and as a mudroom that absorbs the rhythms of coming and going. Every detail was designed around how the family actually uses the space, from the built-in cubbies that hold backpacks and winter gear to the washer positioned to handle the mess before it reaches the rest of the home.

Most people cannot look at a fabric swatch and picture how it will feel in a finished room—and honestly, why should they? That is part of our job! Bridging that gap is one of the most meaningful parts of being a designer.

One of the first questions I ask every new client is whether they have heirloom pieces that will be incorporated in the space—because those pieces often become the foundation of the entire design.

Our clients had a wood hutch that had been in their family for generations, originally gifted as a wedding present to their great-great-grandparents. Designing a space that honored this piece was both a privilege and a priority. We selected traditional-inspired furniture with subtle coastal influence and layered in complementary wood tones throughout to ensure this heirloom was celebrated as the focal point it deserves to be.

When a piece carries that kind of history, every design decision is made in service of it.

"Grown up" doesn't mean boring. Our Westlake clients came to us wanting their living room to feel classic and elevated—a space designed for entertaining, not an afterthought.

To accomplish this, we went with a soft, neutral palette of ivory, blue, and gray with lighter wood tones throughout. Every fabric selected was a performance material that holds up to real life without looking like it was chosen for durability.

These beloved repeat clients (project #5!) came to us with a kitchen, laundry room, and almost entire first floor that wasn't working for their growing family. From day one, we handled both the remodel and furnishings to create a cohesive, functional first floor that finally fits their lifestyle.

We worked closely with our contractor and cabinetry vendor to enhance functionality and future resale value.
