Pops of pink: our baby girl’s nursery

Up until we had our gender reveal party, I was 99% certain I was having a boy.

Apparently my mothers' intuition was slightly off (as my husband liked to joke to me at the time), but the moment we bit into that cupcake and saw the pink frosting on the inside, I was so overcome with surprise, pure happiness, and an overwhelming love for my baby girl. I can still hear our family members cheer after hearing me exclaim, “It’s pink!” It was by far one of the most incredible moments of my life, and I can’t wait to share those special memories with our Cameran someday.

With pink being one of my favorite colors (I did wear a pink wedding dress, after all), I immediately thought of designing our nursery as a soft, pastel haven. After bringing home about a dozen paint chips, we decided on Behr’s Drizzle for three walls, and did an accent wall with Behr’s Sweetheart with two white stripes.

The accent wall was a much more difficult project than I imagined…how do they make it look so easy on HGTV? It took me about 4 hours just to measure and get the tape lines just right! But it was worth it.

It adds a classic, prep-style element with a hint of sweetness to the room.

And the photo above the changing table is actually a framed Target gift bag!

One thing that has not changed over the years, I cherish the moments when I can curl up and relax with a good book.

I wanted to create a cozy, comfortable space where those same moments could be shared with our daughter. After testing out at least two or three dozen rocking chairs, we chose the Sutton Upholstered Swivel Glider (no longer available, but see similar options here), accessorizing it with a gifted, handmade quilt. The bookshelves are actually Ikea spice racks which are mounted on the wall, and can store books or stuffed animals (thank you Pinterest!).

A pink dahlia floral arrangement and aqua accents in the table lamp and hamper add touches of whimsy, while the wooden medallion cutouts above the crib and the distressed-finish nightstand provide farmhouse-style elements (all from Marshall's and HomeGoods).

Baby girl nursery

Knowing we would have some late nights in store once our baby girl arrived, I wanted to create a serene, soothing space, not just for our little one, but for us as well. Seeing our daughter look around at her surroundings in awe, and creating a space that all of us love to be in, makes those late nights a little easier…and once we moved our little one to sleep in her crib in her bedroom at night, she has slept soundly through the night ever since. Maybe it’s coincidence, maybe it's luck…or maybe it’s creating an environment that’s just perfect.
